What is the difference between sine wave and square wave in UPS power supply

2020-06-15

There are two scenes of UPS power supply output:

  A. The direct output of the city power after simple voltage regulation;

  B. The output after the mains or battery (DC voltage) passes the inverter.

1. Backup UPS uninterruptible power supply

  Normal form (A): The mains output after the voltage regulation is a pure sine wave;

  Battery format (B): After the DC voltage passes through the inverter, a square wave is output.

2. Online interactive UPS uninterruptible power supply

  Normal form (A): The mains output after the voltage regulation is a pure sine wave;

  Battery format (B): The output of the DC voltage after passing the inverter is a non-pure sine wave.

3. The output of the online UPS uninterruptible power supply is a pure sine wave

  Normal form (A): The output of the commercial power after passing the inverter is a non-pure sine wave;

  Battery format (B): The output of the DC voltage after passing the inverter is a non-pure sine wave.

Of course, the sine wave (or some pure sine wave) is the best. Its waveform is the same as the waveform on the grid or the generator, and it is even more perfect than the waveform of the electricity obtained on the grid, but the sine wave is modulated. It is not a simple matter and requires complex control circuits; therefore the cost is bound to rise. Therefore, sine wave UPS power supply is generally only displayed on units with a capacity exceeding 5KVA, or on-line and some online interactive units, and backup units are rare unless the capacity is large.

The sine wave has the most efficient conversion of power frequency transformers, and can load all equipment that can be used on commercial power. However, due to cost issues, there are currently many analogies: the correction of sine waves and the correction of sine waves of square waves, that is, not a sine curve, but countless small line segments, using artificial methods to make them look like a sine curve, It is the correction of the sine wave. The correction of the sine wave is also called the correction wave. Although it is better than the square wave, it is still not as good as the sine wave.

The square wave is even simpler, and a very simple circuit can be made, but because the square wave waveform suddenly falls from the highest point to the lowest and then to the highest, the energy loss during this period is also huge, and if the unit capacity is large This loss may cause damage to the machine itself, so the square wave system is generally not displayed on a large unit, and it is generally a small capacity of several hundred volts and appears in the UPS power supply of the backup unit. The conversion efficiency of the sine wave is the highest, and the loss is the smallest, followed by the correction of the sine wave and the square wave.
